What to expect.
Dive
Byron Bay's Julian Rocks Marine Reserve. Julian Rocks
is one of the few dive sites where you can swim with
tropical species found on the Great Barrier Reef as
well as species from Australia's deep Southern Ocean.
- Here the reserve is home to three different species
of sea turtle, an assortment of rays including mantas,
hard and soft corals, friendly wobbegong sharks and
over four hundred different varieties of fish. All
of this is only a five-minute boat ride from Byron
Bay.
- People with all levels of diving experience are
welcome. Join one of the guided dive trips and let
the dive crew show you one of Australia's most spectacular
dive sites.
Whether you are an experienced diver, recently certified
or haven't dived before, we will ensure you enjoy
a safe and rewarding diving experience at Julian Rocks.
Dive courses offered include:
1 Day introductory dive
- Passport diver
- 4 day learn to dive course
- Advanced course
- Rescue course
- Dive master course
- Dive instructor course
issues PADI, SSI and NAUI diving certifications.
When can you go?
Dive trips run 7 days at 7.30am, 10.30am, 1.30pm and
4.00pm
Equipment Provided
All equipment hire (if required), the boat ride (on
which you can frequently see dolphins) and a dive guide
to show you around on a dive of up to 50 minutes is
provided.
Special Considerations
Medical required by law in Australia
You cannot dive if you have:
- Asthma
- Severe Ear disorders
- Severe Lung disorder
- Severe Nervous System disorder
- Severe Heart disorder

Snorkel Trips
What to expect
You
will be amazed by the diversity of species and colour
found in the reserve's clear shallow waters. Julian
Rocks is one of the few dive sites where you can swim
with tropical species found on the Great Barrier Reef
as well as marine life from Australia's deep Southern
Ocean. The reserve is home to three different species
of sea turtle, an assortment of rays including mantas,
hard and soft corals, friendly wobbegong sharks and
over four hundred different species of fish. All of
this is only a five-minute boat ride from Byron Bay.
Up to 1 hour snorkel time.
When can I go?
Snorkel trips run 7 days 10.30am,1.30pm and 4.00pm
Equipment provided
A
snorkel trip to Julian Rocks Marine Reserve includes
the boat ride, equipment hire (mask, snorkel, fins
and wetsuit) and a snorkel lesson (if required).
- Whilst snorkelling you are supervised by qualified
dive staff who will ensure you get the most from your
trip to Julian Rocks Marine Reserve.
- On your return to the dive shop you can get a hot
shower before the dive crew will help you fill out
your logbooks and identify some of the creatures you
saw.
